Review

The purpose of the article is to study and further analyze the work of the film industry through the prism of criminal law and forensics, and to improve the understanding of the topic of crime and the psychology of serial killers on the example of the collective image of the antagonist. The article proposes the qualification of the crimes committed in the film according to the current Ukrainian legislation, and also substantiates the importance of cinema as a tool for studying and understanding various aspects of society, including the legal system. The film Seven is considered as a multidisciplinary source for the study of law, ethics, morality, religion, psychology (in particular, the tort capacity and mental state of law enforcement officers) and cinema.

Methodology. In order to achieve this goal, the author used general scientific and special legal methods: the general dialectical method of scientific knowledge of phenomena and their connections; formal legal (dogmatic or legal and technical); comparative law; and the method of generalization.

Conclusions. Cinema is one of the most important intangible resources of humanity. It is through it that society can be manipulated, its attention can be drawn to certain important issues, or even educated. Recognition of certain works of art by law schools as a high-quality and practical source of educational information will play an important role in increasing the interest of staff in educational materials at the student stage, which will also serve to further logically increase the level and quality of their knowledge of the law. The Criminal Code of Ukraine characterizes a wide range of crimes in a rather vague manner, which has both negative (lack of detail in the legislation is a significant obstacle to accurate qualification of offenses, which, in turn, leads to repeated consideration of cases in appellate and cassation courts) and positive aspects (vagueness gives judges a certain discretion in determining appropriate punishments, taking into account the unique circumstances of each case, which allows for a more individualized and fair response to criminal behavior).
