Review
On 4 February 2017 the 80th anniversary of the birth of Volodymyr Serafymovych Zelenevskyi (1937–2013) was commemorated. A leading Ukrainian scholar in criminal procedure, academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Law and professor, Zelenevskyi began his career in the Prosecutor’s Office and authored four seminal monographs—“Initiation of State Prosecution…” (1979), “General Theory of Combating Crime” (1994), “Pretrial Proceedings in Ukraine’s Criminal Process” (2009), and “Problems in Combating ‘Shadow Science’…” (2011)—alongside some 400 scholarly articles. He pioneered new directions in the theory of prosecution, criminal procedure, and legal scholarship, supervised 8 PhD and 2 doctoral candidates, and contributed to the drafting of Ukraine’s new Criminal Procedure Code. Zelenevskyi’s scientific legacy and pedagogical influence remain foundational for the contemporary development of Ukrainian criminal justice.
