Review
Professor Valerii V. Tishchenko, Doctor of Law and Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine (b. 1947), is a leading authority on criminalistics and pre-trial investigation. After completing his postgraduate studies at Odesa University in 1972, he has taught criminalistic methodology and criminal procedure for over fifty years. In 1973 he earned his PhD with a dissertation on “Investigating Theft of Agricultural Produce…,” and in 2003 his Doctor of Law with “Conceptual Foundations of Investigating Economic-Violent Crimes.” Since 1998 he has headed the Criminalistics Department at Odesa Law Academy. He is the author of nearly 200 scientific works, including Ukraine’s first monograph on investigative methodology (2007) and the co-authored “Technological Criminalistics” (2012). Elected Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences in 2010, he contributed to drafting the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes and has been awarded the Order “For Merit” III Class and honors from the Ministry of Education and Science.
