Review
In The Bar of Ukraine under Globalization, Olena Biriukova examines how globalizing forces shape the Ukrainian legal profession, with a focus on the bar. She defines “legal globalization,” explores its systemic effects on national law and legal institutions, and analyzes the evolving status of lawyers within both international and domestic frameworks. Special attention is given to the adaptation of professional ethics in a competitive global environment.
Drawing on statistical evidence, comparative studies of foreign and Ukrainian regulation, and case law from the European Court of Human Rights, the author identifies core challenges—from securing lawyers’ independence to enforcing professional responsibility—and offers targeted legislative reforms. The monograph outlines strategic directions for strengthening bar self-governance, enhancing legal service quality, and bolstering public trust in the profession.
